“Aside from what it teaches you,
there is simply the indescribable degree of peace
that can be achieved on a sailing vessel…”
– Billy Campbell
Raise the sails and take the helm! It’s time for another exciting year of Nashville Sail Camp with Leadership Academy and Percy Priest Yacht Club (PPYC)! Few things enliven the senses and stir the imagination like a day on the water. And learning to sail is a great way for young people to experience nature, learn valuable interpersonal skills, and find their sense of adventure.
Open to children and teens ages 8-15, Nashville Sail Camp is taught by expert instructors with years of Sail Camp and sail racing experience. Based on US Sailing Level 1 instruction, curriculum will cover the essentials of beginners’ sailing.
Campers have the option of attending 5- day (M-F) or single-day sessions.
Topics include:
- Rigging the boat
- Finding the wind
- Basic boat handling
- Boat Safety
Campers will spend their session at scenic Hamilton Creek Marina. Each day at Camp is full of hands-on sailing lessons on shore and on the water. Nashville Sail Camp uses Sunfish boats as our teaching platform. These smaller boats give campers real sailing experience in a safe, sturdy boat that handles easily and is perfect for younger sailors.
What to Bring:
- Signed participation waiver
- CGA Class 3 Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
- Sack lunch (with water bottle)
- Closed-toe water shoes
- Hat
- Athletic swimwear
- SPF 30 sunscreen
Nashville Sail Camp is the perfect way for kids to build confidence, independence, and good sportsmanship while meeting new friends and learning to work as a team. We can help prepare your child for their next sailing trip, while keeping them active and encouraging their sense of exploration.
Nashville Sail Camp is open to any interested sailor ages 8-15, with a discount available for Youth Members of the Percy Priest Yacht Club. Not a member? Contact PPYC about membership today. See you on the water!
