Mountain Bike Camp

There’s nothing like getting out on the trail for an exhilarating bike ride; especially when you know the how to get the most from your bike. Part of the Leadership Academy, LLC Teen Leadership Adventure program, our Cycling Causes Mountain Bike Camp is a 5-day intensive cycling camp that utilizes science, technology, engineering, and mathematics [or, STEM] concepts to help teens master the mechanics, techniques and technical skills of cycling.

Expert cyclist Doug Ferrar leads camps for both beginner and advanced cyclists that helps teens learn maintenance, bike control, and how to surmount obstacles on the trail.

Here’s a look at some of the fun in store for our campers and staff this summer at Mountain Bike Camp:

  • Bike set up and tune-up
  • Pressure comparison tests
  • Bike maintenance and safety
  • Bike control and navigation
  • Balance and positioning
  • Cornering, pumping, and braking
  • Balancing in Place
  • Pedal Kicks and Wheelies
  • Riding the rear wheel
  • Small Jumps
  • Slow races

Along with bike building and maintenance, Mountain Bike Camp is the perfect place to  improve bike navigation, riding speed and overall cycling techniques. Body positioning, bike control, tricks, and jumps are not only helpful for conquering the trail. Cycling is a great way to learn STEM concepts like:

  • Calculating averages
  • Understanding energy
  • Finding your center of gravity
  • Leverage
  • Friction
  • Force
  • Engineering design
  • Gyroscopic forces
  • Opposing forces
  • Stored and kinetic energyEnergy systems
  • Gravitational forces

While learning STEM concepts is more and more important for academic and professional success, it’s also the secret to mastering the ins and outs of mountain biking. Above all, the goal of Camp is to leave with a love for cycling, learning, and healthy living. Mountain Bike Camp is the perfect way for the teens in your life to be active, build community, and learn enriching skills while enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. Register now to reserve a spot for your teen on this unforgettable adventure.
